The Rat is thrilled to announce that chanteuse Shayna Blass will be performing with instrumental backup. Shayna garnered acclaim for playing Lulu in “Cabaret” and Yentl in, yes, “Yentl.” We eagerly anticipate the goosebumps she elicits. (http://www.shaynablass.com/videos/)
It’s BACK! The Rat (Ten-Foot Rat Cabaret) brings you its signature mix of great music, smart comedy, dance, theater, burlesque, art and storytelling: A slice of NYC nightlife in a classic East Village venue. A night out like no other.
Wed. Aug. 2, 2017 Show Features:
AMAZING BLUES VOCALS:
Azusa Dance (aka SHESHE DANCE). This bold beautiful blues belter conquered the Showtime at The Apollo — twice! The Rat is delighted to have Azusa back, with all her amazing talent, energy and love. You won’t believe your ears.
DANCE / BURLESQUE:
Galatea Stone is back, perpetrating her artful performance for the Rat! Described as a “beautiful oddity” and “striking polymath,” her monthly show, WE ARE LEGION, has been called “deliciously strange” and a “much needed [and] necessary slap in the face for creative ideas.”
CLASSIC CABARET STYLIST:
Chanteusse Shayna Blass will be performing with instrumental backup. Shayna has garnered acclaim from the Washington Post, among others for roles including Lulu in “Cabaret” and Yentl in, yes, “Yentl.” We eagerly anticpate the goosebumps she elicits. (http://www.shaynablass.com/videos/)
Standup comic Kevin Michael Smith will be making his Rat debut. Trivia: Besides co-producing and performing in the weekly show “Polished Comedy” at Beauty Bar in Manhattan, Smith has played joints as far-flung as Barcelona… and, oh, yeah, he served in the military in Afghanistan. Come honor his service by laughing at his material!
Artist-in-Residence Bill Chambers is the Rat’s X-factor: He might tell a morbidly funny tale of NYC apartment hunting, animate a dead Teddy Ruxpin a la Mary Shelly, arrange a special appearance by “Neil Diamond” or “Children’s Author Henry Rollins.” (Seen in the Frigid Festival, Canuck Cabaret, and punk rock shows all across the Former Communist Bloc).
PSEUDO GERMAN SCHEISS:
And the Rat cast would not be complete without Gregor of Berlin (Gregory Levine). Master of nihilistic nightclub humor and Continental kitsch, Herr Gregor will regale the audience with horrid tales of Teutonic childhood, morphine, prostitution, and of course, life in European show biz (Seen in the Fringe and Frigid Festivals, the Travel Channel, the PIT, Guilty Pleasures Cabaret and Guinness Book of World Records for Longest Continuous Variety Show).
HOSTED by Stand Up Comic/Storyteller, Canadian Import Jillian Thomas (MTV Live, The Toronto Show, The Buzz, Listen Missy, & Much Music’s Love Court). Not to mention the annual East Village Oscar Awards Party and Canada’s longest-running cannabis-cafe comedy-club show!
Atmospheric Retro Candy Gal Debby Bell! Purveyor of salty sweet treats and delights!
produced by Rob Dub and Gregory Levine
