Feb. 9 Performer Highlight: Sheshe Dance
Thousands of New Yorkers have experienced Sheshe’s magic while hustling through the subway: They stop short when they hear her incredible pipes and witness her beautiful charisma. As an official Music Under New York (MUNY) program performer, she turns the sprawling 34th St/Herald Square and Times Square stations into her personal roadhouse, nightclub, party. (WATCH Sheshe HERE)
Sheshe Dance (aka Azusa) is also an accomplished actress and playwright. Recently, she created and starred in “Houn’ Dawg: The Life & Times of ‘Big Mama’ Thornton” at United Solo 2018, the world’s biggest solo-performance festival: 130 shows from six continents! “Houn’ Dawg” won the Best Concert Award and was an Audience Favorite – such a smash that the Theater Row venue (West 42nd St, NYC) held it over for an extended run!
Sheshe was also a finalist TWICE at the legendary, tough Showtime at the Apollo Amateur Night! (James brown and Lauryn Hill were booed off that stage…)
(Check out her wild Apollo number here!)

So… Who Else Is Performing on Saturday Feb. 9?
SHARP WEIRD BRAINY COMEDY
Noam Osband – He has a PhD in Anthropology and His Bike Lane Hero song on the Brooklyn Bridge got 1,972,162* views. With tunes like The Ballad of Eva Braun (a love song!) and explication of why “Rubber Ducky” is actually Ernie’s unrequited love, Noam is back at the Rat to celebrate Valentine’s Day with his own hilarious, warped view of the human condition.

VISIONARY VAUDEVILLE HIPHOP OPERA:
Rebirth of Rabbits Foot – The Rat is honored to present Rabbits Foot’s last US appearance before their Amsterdam shows. Spanning 1902 to 2019, this “hiphop vaudeville” rock opera tells the parallel stories of Pat Chapelle, the first African-American producer of a highly successful all-Black vaudeville company, and their modern-day descendants: a tale of America, race and show biz then and now, it’s hilarious, bittersweet, beautiful, frustrating and triumphant, with overtones of the Marx Bros., Abbott & Costello and Chaplin’s Great Dictator – and fantastic music and dancing.
HIGH-KICKING DANCE TROUPE:
Moulin Rouge-style dazzle, costumery, Tap, Frug, acrobatic “circus” contortion, and Light Show — that’s the acclaimed international Guilty Pleasures Cabaret dance company! See why they’ve wowed crowds at Feinstein’s/54 Below, the Duplex, the Cutting Room and worldwide resorts from Dubai to Belize to China!
The Rat would not be complete without our Artist-in-Residence: the funny, brilliant, and bizarre Bill Chambers. He brought us Henry Rollins’ Children’s Book Read-a-long, David Lee Roth’s Therapy Session, Vincenzo the Chain-Smoking Monkey, Neil Diamond’s True Crime Confessions. Expect the unexpected from this hilarious performance-art polymath. He opened the Gotham Storytelling Festival, slew the Canuck Cabaret, and appears in the annual cult favorite Lower East Side Anti-Folk Festival.
‘GERMAN ARISTOCRAT’ … OR CON MAN?
Continental kitsch and dark “German” nightclub humor with Gregory Levine as aristocratic criminal Gregor of Berlin. Suave, sinister, witty and sarcastic, Herr Gregor regales the audience with horrid tales of warped Teutonic childhood, decadence, and of course, show-biz life in Europe and America. Gregory/Gregor has been seen in the Capital Fringe, Frigid Festival, Travel Channel, The Duplex, the PIT Comedy Theater and Guinness Book of World Records.
HOSTED by Stand Up Comic/Storyteller, Canadian Import Jillian Thomas (MTV Live, The Buzz, The Toronto Show, Listen Missy and Much Music’s Love Court). Not to mention the annual East Village Oscar Awards Party, and Canada’s longest-running cannabis-cafe comedy-club show!
Produced by Rob Dub and Gregory Levine
