At age 10, trumpeter “Ego” (Eganam Segbefia) emigrated to the U.S. from Ghana. Since then he’s played brilliantly at Carnegie Hall, became a member of the Brooklyn Steppers Marching Band and plays with the United Nations Symphony Orchestra. But he still loves to mingle with the New Yorkers who witnessed his greatness: playing by the Grand Central-Times Square Shuttle.
He began playing the trumpet in the 5th grade, just 7 months after the Segbefia family migrated to New York City. “At first I liked playing the trumpet because it was a way for me to hide my strong African English accent from my peers at the time,” recalls Eganam. “It then grew into an extension of me which I use to share my passion and life experiences.”
Life experiences, indeed:
“If you search for trumpeter Eganam Segbefia online you might be amazed by what you find… an article written by Barneys New York, a segment about Eganam on radio station WQXR, and a listing on IMDb as an On-Screen Musician in the film Enchanted. These search results do not come close to describing Eganam’s experiences or his passion for music, people, and life.”

The Ten-Foot Rat Cabaret is proud to feature Eganam in our show on Sat., Nov. 10, 10:30pm, when NYC’s Dance Music Comedy Art Show Returns!

So… Who Else Is Performing on Saturday Nov. 10?
WORLD DANCE TROUPE:
Moulin Rouge-style dazzle, costumery, Tap, Frug, acrobatic “circus” contortion, and Light Show — that’s the acclaimed international Guilty Pleasures Cabaret dance company! See why they’ve wowed crowds at Feinstein’s/54 Below, the Duplex, the Cutting Room and worldwide resorts from Dubai to Belize to China!
HILARIOUS ABSURDITY OF LIFE:
Comedian Jess Salomon’s life reads like a screenplay: former UN War Crimes lawyer who left Canada for NYC with her Palestinian wife… after conquering the famed Just for Laughs and Winnipeg Comedy Festivals. She’s written for TV cult fave show Baroness Von Sketch (IFC Network) and will be recording a debut album at the 2018 New York Comedy Festival. Ten-Foot Rat is glad to get her before she gets too big to book!
POP CULTURE, HORROR, SILLINESS… BURLESQUE??
Miranda Raven is a performer you can’t look away from: From Sweeney Todd to creepy Bavarian windup dolls, adorable Dr. Who sidekicks to those horrid twins in The Shining, this NY burlesque luminary manages to entice and horrify and make you laugh simultaneously. She regularly graces long-running shows Hotsy Totsy Burlesque and the D20 “Nerdlesque” Fest. And we’re delighted to welcome her back to the Rat!
(See Miranda in this NY Times article!)
‘RICH SOULFUL GORGEOUS’ MUSIC:
That’s how people describe the work of singer-guitarist David Segovia. He weaves classical, ethnic and rock-blues into sweeping sounds, with great beauty and passion. Listen and you’ll agree that Segovia truly “plays with the blood” – and you’ll see why we’re thrilled to welcome him back.
The Rat would not be complete without our Artist-in-Residence: the funny, brilliant, and strange Bill Chambers. A bloodthirsty Apple tech expo, Vincenzo the Chain-Smoking Monkey, “Neil Diamond’s true crime confessions” — expect the unexpected from this hilarious performance-art polymath. He’s seen in the Frigid Festival, Canuck Cabaret, and the annual cult favorite Lower East Side Anti-Folk Festival.
‘GERMAN ARISTOCRAT’ ENTERTAINER… OR CON MAN?
Continental kitsch and dark “German” nightclub humor with Gregory Levine as aristocratic criminal Gregor of Berlin. Suave, sinister, witty and sarcastic, Herr Gregor regales the audience with horrid tales of warped Teutonic childhood, decadence, and of course, show-biz life. Gregory/Gregor has been seen in the Capital Fringe, Frigid Festival, Travel Channel, The Duplex, the PIT Comedy Theater and Guinness Book of World Records.
HOSTED by emcee extraordinaire, comedian/storyteller and Canadian Import Jillian Thomas (MTV Live, The Buzz, The Toronto Show, Listen Missy and Much Music’s Love Court). Not to mention the annual East Village Oscar Awards Party, and Canada’s longest-running cannabis-cafe comedy-club show!
