5th Anniversary Show Performer Hightlight: Ike

AAAAA-20160805_Ike_Ufomadu_0271

Meet the Rat’s Sept. 8 Headliner: Ikechukwu Ufomadu, aka IKE.

Sly, witty, with just a trace of the absurd, Ike’s signature act is a tongue-in-cheek collision of 1960s Johnny Carson and the best of pop-culture kitsch.

His short-form series Words with Ike has aired on VICE and IFC networks.

The New York Times named Ike in its exclusive “What’s New in NYC Theatre” column.

Featured in Playboy Magazine‘s 2018 Summer Comedy Issue, the “waggishly charming” Ikechukwu was also named 1 of 5 “Comics to Watch in 2018” by Time Out New York (yes, 1 of 5).

His critically-acclaimed shows include the sophisticated satire “Ike at Night” at The Public Theater, Bushwick Starr and JACK, and his comedy and music “Nightcap by Ike” and “Ike for the Holidays” at Joe’s Pub.

Ike was here in the beginning: He performed with Ten-Foot Rat Cabaret in our debut show in September 2013. We are grateful to have him and his superb talent back for our Fifth Anniversary Show on Saturday, Sept. 8, 10:30pm!

Subhah-Credit-KellyDwyerPhotography - CROP

5th Anniversary Show Performer Highlight: Subhah Agarwal

Writer for The Jim Jefferies Show and Comedy Knockout, actress and comedian, Subhah has headlined on Comedy Central, TruTV, MTV, and top New York City comedy clubs all over New York City.

With a sharp, clever voice and an outlook not bitter so much as “been-around,” if you’ve ever played the field, you’ll find yourself nodding and laughing as Subhah details the realities of dating in NYC… especially as a woman. (Sorry, fellas, but you know she’s right.)

Subhah’s take on being a 1st-generation Indian-American (and apparently a grave disappointment to her ambitious white-collar parents) is always hilarious.
“Subhah’s parents immigrated from India to small town America so their children could live the American dream. And by American dream I mean pursue stand up comedy and become an Indian parent’s nightmare.”

Ten-Foot Rat Cabaret is thrilled to welcome her back to our stage!

(Click to Reserve $10 Tickets)

Now in its 5th Year, Ten-Foot Rat Cabaret (READ REVIEW) features an inspired, curated monthly roster of thrilling music, smart comedy, amazing dance, clever storytelling, sexy burlesque, art and theatrical vaudeville spectacle. Saturday July 14, 10:30pm Show Features:

BIG-TIME HOTSHOT COMEDIAN:
It’s Dino Stamatopoulos!
He played Star-Burns on “Community.” He wrote for Mr. Show. He created stop-action animation Moral Orel and Mary Shelley’s Frankenhole for Adult Swim. You’ve seen him in Conan sketches.
(Stephen Colbert tweeted: “Hey. You know Dino Stamatopoulos? He’s funny…”)

HIPHOP VAUDEVILLE:
Telling the true stories of African-American performers in the 1910s and now, this show-ensemble created by dancer and choreographer Jordon Waters is very funny, poignant, dynamic, cool, and finally triumphant. The Rat is proud to present excerpts of “Rebirth of Rabbit’s Foot” (presented at Feinstein’s/54 Below, Joe’s Pub and a 6-Month Residency at the PIT Theater). Rabbit’s Foot is about to explode with dance, patter, and energy!

GORGEOUS MUSIC:
A sound that’s simple, raw and stripped down, while filling the room with soul and intensity: that’s Henry Black, a singer and guitarist making his Rat debut. We’re thrilled to welcome him aboard!

MONTHLY ART-ENTERTAINMENT BRILLIANCE:
The Rat’s not complete without the funny, clever, eccentric work of Bill Chambers. A horrifying parody of an Apple tech expo, the tale of Vincenzo the Chain-Smoking Monkey, re-animating a “dead” Teddy Ruxpin a la Mary Shelly — expect the unexpected. Bill is seen in the Frigid Festival, Canuck Cabaret, and the annual East Village Antifolk Festival.

PSEUDO ‘GERMAN’ NIGHTCLUB HUMOR:
Gregor of Berlin (aka Gregory Levine) – suave, sinister, sarcastic, appearing “by contractual obligation,” the Fatherland’s favorite entertainer will regale you with horrid tales of Berlinner childhood, decadence, morphine, prostitution, and of course, show biz. (Seen at Feinstein’s/54 Below, APAP showcases at the Duplex, Capital Fringe, Frigid Festival, Travel Channel and in the Guinness World Records).

HOT WORLD DANCE ENSEMBLE:
Members of the acclaimed international Guilty Pleasures Cabaret dance troupe bring their Moulin Rouge-style dazzle, costumery, Tap, Frug, “circus” contortion, and acclaimed Light Show to the Rat every month! See why they wowed Feinstein’s/54 Below, The Duplex and resorts from Belize to China!

HOSTED by Stand Up Comic/Storyteller, Canadian Import Jillian Thomas (MTV Live, The Toronto Show, The Buzz, Listen Missy, & Much Music’s Love Court). Not to mention the annual East Village Oscar Awards Party, and Canada’s longest-running cannabis-cafe comedy-club show!

The legendary Killy Dwyer (host, Radio Free Brooklyn) is a singer, songwriter, mosher, digital artist and performer like you’ve never seen! Learn why Jerry Stiller said, “Kid, that Lady Gaga’s got nothin’ on you!” when she was a Finalist in the annual Andy Kaufman Awards!

FUNNY BITTER(SWEET) STORY LEGEND:
Michele Carlo (creator of “Fish Out of Agua” and acclaimed solo show “There Goes the Neighbrhood”) is the self-proclaimed “redhead with 8,000,000 stories about New York City—perhaps one of them is about *you*…” We’re looking forward to getting lost in her words.

All Hail Queen Taradise!

Taradise-Queen-Montage

Congratulations to one of our favorite performers: Taradise, who won the title 2018 New Jersey Queen of Burlesque!

Taradise Bizub is a dancer, burlesque performer, comedian, actress and producer who epitomizes what it means to be in Show Biz.

Member of the acclaimed posh burlesque-theater ensemble House of Noire, Taradise performs all over NYC and America as a solo act and in conjunction with others. She can be seen regularly onstage at legendary Lower East Side “pin-up bar” Nurse Bettie.

On May 25th, she competed in the Queen & King of NJ Burlesque Competition, as part of the NJ Burlesque Festival at The Asbury Hotel, in Asbury Park, NJ.
And she won! …but frankly, we weren’t surprised.

Watch Taradise in one of her Ten-Foot Rat Cabaret appearances, in one of her favorite incarnations: Lucille Ball in “I Love Lucy!  (Her appearance starts at :58)
